Mike Vick…well, at least he’s fast, right?

This picture is awesome, and is from Kissing Suzy KolberYou have seriously got to be kidding me. No, seriously. A day after ESPN decided to hold their Michael Vick town meeting (honestly ESPN…this was the worst idea ever…you did nothing but continue to strengthen the racial divide between whites and blacks in Atlanta. Besides that…this was a little late, yes? He pleaded guilty almost a month ago…you are ESPN for goodness sakes; you couldn’t get the panel together any faster?), and there was a large outpour of support for Vick, we have some not so positive Michael Vick news…he’s tested positive for marijuana usage. The result? U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ordered Vick confined to his home between 10pm and 6am with electronic monitoring and he has to submit to random drug testing.

Honestly, what more could Michael Vick do wrong? The only way he could make this situation worse is if he hi-jacked a plane or something. If you are already in trouble for arguably the biggest sports story in the last 10 years, and then you get a small reprieve with Bill Belichick and the Patriots spygate incident, and then what do you do? bring yourself right back into the spotlight with your failed urine test.

What’s the old adage? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. The bad part for Michael Vick? I think Judge Hudson knows the adage as well.

Russell-watch: Day 42.

Filed under: Agencies, JaMarcus Russell, Michael Vick, Sports, Sports Agent — Tags: — emmettjones @ 12:23 pm

I can’t believe I’m writing about JaMarcus Russell again (see here, here, and here), but there are new stories to discuss. The guys over at Sports Agent Blog are reporting that the man who originally recruited Russell, Mel Bratton, has left Lock, Metz, & Malinovic and has now become the new vice president of football operations at DeBartolo Sports & Entertainment. Interestingly enough, Sports Agent Blog is also reporting that another agent at LLM also left for DeBartolo on the same day. So, people are jumping ship over at LLM…the question is whether they’re worried that there is some level of incompetency there, or were they’re worried about being stigmatized later on because of their connection with the firm? Or maybe…(Corleone voice activated) DeBartolo made them an offer they couldn’t refuse?

Amidst all of the craziness, the big question is, “what’s really going on with JaMarcus Russell?” The good news (possibly) is that his uncle is reporting that Russell and the Raiders are close to a deal. Honestly, I won’t be convinced that anyone in this situation is close to a deal until the deal is actually signed. And in the end? I still think its Michael Vick’s fault…at least partially.

Captain’s Log. Star-date, September 4th 2007. We’ve been in “contract limbo” for 40 days now. We’ve been running low on food, and probably a little low on patience. We’ve been splitting time between Atlanta and our hometown of Mobile, Alabama. We’ve been working out with our high school football team, trying to stay in shape. We want to be in the NFL. We just seem to be having some contract issues. (more…)
