Dancing With The Stars and Athletes, a match made in heaven

Helio CastronevesFloyd Mayweather Jr.

Do you know who these two people are? If you don’t, you will shortly. They are IndyCar driver Helio Castroneves and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both allegedly will be competing on the hit ABC show Dancing With The Stars when it returns on September 24th. Many notable athletes have competed on DWTS in the past, including Jerry Rice, Evander Holyfield, Lalia Ali, and Emmitt Smith (who won the contest two years ago).

Simply put, this is a great move for both men. Millions of people who had never heard of either one of these athletes will now not only know them, but get an in-depth glance at their personalities. If they can endear themselves to the DWTS viewers, the potential for endorsements and future endeavors seem limitless. How popular is DWTS? Emmitt Smith, in a TV interview, said he was far more popular now, in terms of fans and autographs, then he was when he was playing football. That’s from a hall of fame who arguably played in the most popular sport in America…it will be interesting to see what Castroneves and Mayweather will say after their DWTS experience.

Floyd Mayweather is represented by the William Morris Agency, while Castroneves is represented by Perry Rogers of PRISM (Premier Integrated Sports Management), who can be contacted (hopefully) at this address (note: scroll down to “Andre Agassi Foundation” to see the address).

NOTE: I really hope these agency listings are correct…there doesn’t seem to be a lot of agency information out there for Helio Castroneves.

August 29th Update: The real and complete cast of the 5th season can be found here.

UPDATE: September 26th.  Floyd and Helio are both advancing to the next round…and let me just say, Helio Castroneves…he looks like he’s straight out of a ballroom.

  1. Doped dancers.

    More steroids on TV.

  2. Doped dancers? Whatever…
So many of the contestants are good this season and although I began watching because Marie Osmond is one, Helio Castroneves has won my heart. His personality is so vibrant, he’s very easy on the eyes and he actually has talent. I’d never heard of Helio and although I have always been a NASCAR fan, I suddenly find I am researching IRL racing. The choreography for the Jive was more intricate than it was for the Mambo therefore I thought the music for Julianne and Helio deserved the lower score, not the dancers. Helio was right in step with Julianne once again. Bravo.
Honeslty, I am highly anticipating the Pasa Doble between these two… I think they will rock the house.

  3. I haven’t watched that often, but I did see that Helio Castroneves is a pretty good dancer. Way better than I thought he’d be. You usually don’t expect the athletes to make the transition that well, and he did.
