Alright, we’re in the middle of a busy sports week, it seems, so there isn’t a whole lot of time for me to fit the CBA stuff in, but fortunately, there is a very short, albeit important section. Article LIX of the NFL’s CBA is entitled Governing Law, and as the title implies it deals with the laws that govern any situation that arises under the CBA. The section is listed below,
To the extent that federal law does not govern the implementation of this Agreement, this Agreement shall be construed and interpreted under, and shall be governed by, the laws applicable to contracts made and performed in the State of New York.
So, this is pretty self explanatory, but its just a little note to you future sports agents out there…know your federal law, and you might want to look into New York law as well…you never know when it might come in handy.
The rest of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement can be found here.
